Adelaide Hall was born in 1901 to Elizabeth and William Hall. She had a sister named Evelyn.

They both went to the Pratt Institute, where their dad, William Hall, taught piano. Unfortunately, William Hall passed away on March 23, 1917.

In 1924, Adelaide got married to Bertram Errol Hicks, a British sailor from Trinidad and Tobago.

Right after they got married, he started a club in Harlem, New York, called “The Big Apple.” He also became her official business manager.
