Big Pokey Songs: Born on November 29, 1977, Big Pokey, officially known as Milton Powell was an American rapper from Houston, Texas.

He developed a passion for music at a younger age and was consistent throughout his career rising through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after rappers from Houston, Texas.

Pokey started his rap career with Houston producer DJ Screw in the early 1990s and was featured on the DJ’s landmark mixtape June 27 Freestyle.

He was associated with chopped and screwed music and was a member of Screwed Up Circle, a group of Houston-based rappers.

On May 18, 1999, Pokey released his first studio album, “Hardest Pit in the Litter” and also appeared in the 2001 film Soldiers United for Cash and later starred in Dirty Third 2: Home Sweet Home.

Sadly the Houston rapper had died. Big Pokey passed away at the age of 45 on Sunday, June 18, 2023, after collapsing during a Juneteenth show at Pour 09 Bar in Beaumont, Texas.

He was earlier seen performing at the show and was seen with a microphone in his hand when he suddenly collapsed. The rapper was then rushed to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he died.

Fellow rapper, Bun B was the first to announce Pokey’s demise with a post on Instagram on Sunday, June 18. In a statement he wrote;

“I wasn’t ready for this. One of the most naturally talented artists in the city. Low key, humble mountain of a man who moved with honor and respect. He was easy to love and hard to hate. He’d pull up, do what he had to do and head home. One of the pillars of our city. If heart of gold was a person. Iconic member of the SUC. There will never be another and will be missed dearly. We love and honor you Sensei. Rest in heaven”
