Edson Alvarez Age, Height, Weight: Edson Alvarez, officially known as Edson Omar Alvarez Velazquez is a Mexican professional footballer.

As of Thursday, August 10, 2023, he plays as a defensive midfielder or a center-back for Premier League club West Ham United and the Mexico national team.

He developed a passion for playing football at a younger age and at the age of 16 in 2014, he joined Club America’s youth system, playing for the under-17 team.

While still playing for the under-17 squad, Alvarez was promoted to Club America’s second-division team in 2015.

In October 2016, Alvarez made his Liga MX debut playing all 90 minutes and in December 2016, he scored his first career goal in the Apertura final against Tigres UANL.

Prior to the start of the 2017–18 season, he was handed the number 4 shirt, which was vacated following the departure of Erik Pimentel

On 23 February 2019, Alvarez made his 100th competitive appearance for Club America’s second division in the team’s 3–0 victory over Lobos BUAP.

On Friday, 19th July 2019, Dutch club AFC Ajax announced an agreement with Club America for the signing of Alvarez on a five-year contract.

After passing medical, he was officially presented on 22 July and was handed the number 4 shirt following the departure of Matthijs de Ligt

In August 2019, Alvarez made his competitive debut for Ajax as a 74th-minute substitute in the team’s 4–1 league win over VVV-Venlo.

That same month (August), he scored his first goal in his first start against APOEL in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League play-off round.

On 27th October 2021, it was announced Alvarez had extended his contract with Ajax, keeping him with the club until 2025

On 30th April 2022, he made his 100th appearance for the club and eventually was inducted into the club’s Club Van 100.

The above-mentioned feat made Alvarez the 174th player in the history of the club to join the ranks.

Alvarez has been consistent throughout his career and has risen through the ranks to become one of the most sought-after footballers.

In August 2023, the Mexican professional footballer hit major headlines after he was signed by English Premier League club, West Ham United

Alvarez joined the Hammers on a permanent contract until June 2028, after the Club fought off strong competition from other top European clubs to bring him to London Stadium.

Alvarez will wear the 19 shirt at West Ham United. The team begins their Premier League season against Bournemouth on Saturday, August 12.
