Bret Hart was born on July 2, 1957, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is a member of the well-known Hart Family.

Bret was also trained in Hart Dungeon by his father.

He was an amateur wrestler while in school. Bret began his career with Stampede Wrestling, a promotion owned by Stu Hart. He also wrestled in New Japan Pro Wrestling for a short time.
