Born on January 19, 1972, her most iconic role was as Adriana La Cerva in the HBO television series The Sopranos (1999–2006), a performance that earned her the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2004.

She has also made significant contributions to other TV series, such as playing Gina Tribbiani in Joey (2004–2006), Wendy Case in Sons of Anarchy (2008–2014), Angie Bolen in Desperate Housewives (2009–2010), and Detective Tess Nazario in Shades of Blue (2016–2018).

De Matteo, of Italian heritage, was raised in a Catholic family. Drea De Matteo appeared as the stepmother of Steve Wilde, the lead character in the FOX comedy Running Wilde, in season 1, episode 9. De Matteo and Chris Kushner launched a rewatch podcast of The Sopranos called “Made Women” on March 13, 2020. In July, the podcast was rebranded as “Gangster Goddess Broad-Cast.”

In a tragic turn of events, de Matteo, along with dozens of other residents, lost her apartment of 22 years in a gas explosion and fire that destroyed three buildings in Manhattan’s East Village on March 26, 2015.

De Matteo’s romantic journey took an interesting turn when she started dating musician Shooter Jennings in 2001. Their relationship reached a milestone when, on June 11, 2009, Jennings proposed to her onstage at the Stanley Theater during a performance in Utica, New York.

They share two children together, a daughter named Alabama Gypsyrose Jennings and a son named Waylon Albert “Blackjack” Jennings. Despite their engagement, Jennings and de Matteo eventually parted ways without tying the knot. In July 2015, de Matteo found love again and became engaged to Michael Devin, the bass guitarist of Whitesnake.
