The Dallas Mavericks picked Brunson with the 33rd overall selection on June 21, 2018. In the 2018 NBA Draft, he was the fourth and last Villanova player selected.

After finishing the 2018 NBA Summer League, Brunson signed a four-year deal with three years of guaranteed pay, which is comparable to a first-round pick’s deal.
