Nicholas Lou Saban Jr. known simply as Nick Saban was born on October 31, 1951, in Fairmont, West Virginia in the United States of America.

He is an American with Croatian ancestry.

For his high school education, he went to Monongah High School situated in a small community in Monongah, West Virginia. Upon graduation, he attended the University of West Virginia where he played as a quarterback on the 1968 West Virginia state championship team.

During his varsity days, Nick played alongside Kerry Marbury who later went on to become a star for the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Canadian Football League.
