The former Philadelphia Flyers goalie, Roman Cechmanek died at 52 on Sunday, 12 November 2023 at his home in Czechia.

The news of his demise was announced in a statement from the team by Keith Jones but did not mention the cause of his death making it unknown whether he battled any form of illness or died through an accident.

The Flyers selected Cechmanek in the sixth round of the 2000 NHL draft where he was voted to the 2001 NHL All-Star Game and twice selected the Bobby Clarke Trophy winner as the team’s MVP.

In May 2003, the Philadelphia Flyers traded Cechmanek to the Los Angeles Kings. He finished his NHL career with a 110-64-28 record, 2.08 GAA, .919 save percentage, and 25 shutouts in 212 games.

Cechmanek later played professionally in Germany and Sweden. According to the Flyers, the goaltender returned to Czechia after his NHL career and became a youth hockey coach.
