He is French professional basketball player. Rudy plays for the National Basketball Association’s Minnesota Timberwolves (NBA). Additionally, he competes on behalf of France’s national squad abroad. He plays the centre position and is 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m) tall with a wingspan of 7 ft 9 in (2.36 m) long. He is regarded as one of the top rim protectors in the NBA.

Rudy is tied for third most in NBA history in terms of the number of times he has earned the Defensive Player of the Year award. Gobert first began playing basketball for the JSC St-Quentin club in 2003, and he later switched to the Saint-Quentin BB team. He began practising with Cholet Basket’s cadet divisions in 2007, and in 2010, he competed with the French under-18 national team in the FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship, where he finished as the team’s top scorer and rebounder.
Gobert played primarily for the Cholet Basket junior squad from 2009 to 2011, only appearing in one senior team game in 2010–11. On May 10, 2011, against Pau-Lacq–Orthez, he recorded 6 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block in 13 minutes. In 29 games for Cholet in 2011–12, he scored 4.2 points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds each. He played in 27 games for the 2012–13 season, averaging 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds each.

Gobert was exchanged for Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, the draught rights to centre Walker Kessler, four first-round picks, and a 2026 first-round pick swap on July 6, 2022, and was sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Gobert made his Timberwolves debut on October 20 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, scoring 23 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in a 115-108 victory. In a 111-102 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on October 28, Gobert notched 22 points and 21 rebounds; it was his eighth 20/20 game overall and first in Minnesota.
