Kupp’s father Craig Kupp (b. April 14, 1967), is a former football quarterback.

After Selah High School, he had a collegiate football career at Pacific Lutheran University and also became a 1986 All-Frontier Conference.

Craig then became the 5th round (135th overall) pick of the New York Giants in the 1990 NFL Draft but saw a waiver ahead of the season.
