They are in fact incredible money spinners, with stars earning thousands of pounds for their ability to flick a switch and spend an hour wishing townsfolk a Merry Christmas.
PETER ANDRE
One of the highest reported earners is singer Peter Andre, with The Mirror previously revealing the 45-year-old was paid a whopping £20k to turn on the Christmas lights in Perth, Scotland in 2014.
For the fee, Peter performed a string of hits including Mysterious Girl.
NADINE COYLE
Meanwhile The Daily Telegraph reported that former Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle and Scouting for Girls were paid £14k each to switch on St Helens lights in 2015. The same council reportedly paid boyband 5ive £5,000 for flicking the switch in 2017.
OLLY MURS
Renfrewshire Council reportedly paid Olly Murs £15k back in 2010 and a similar fee to Stacey Solomon the following year.
The same council was still splashing the cash last year, with The Mirror reporting rock band Ash received £12k to do the honours.

But now he's made his name across the pond as a correspondent on Extra, his fee is bound to have increased if he's invited to star in another Christmas light switch on.

X Factor winner Ben Haenow received £8,500 to appear at Carlisle's festivities in 2016, two years after winning the show.
A year later his fee had dropped slightly to £6,500 for the Blackburn with Darwen Council switch on.

Another pop star cashing in is former Westlife singer Brian McFadden, who was reportedly paid £2,500 by Denbighshire Council in Wales to perform six songs and switch on the lights in 2013.
Meanwhile Chorley Council paid The Voice winner Kevin Simm £2,000 in 2016.

The Telegraph revealed back in 2010 that kids TV presenters Dick and Dom charged £5,800 to turn on Solihull's Christmas lights.
