He spent four years playing college basketball for Duke University before being selected as the 21st overall pick by the Utah Jazz in the 2018 NBA draft. Allen played for the Jazz for one season before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in July 2019, and then to the Bucks in August 2021.

Despite being part of the Duke team that won the national championship in 2015, Allen’s reputation was tarnished by his controversial on-court behavior, which included numerous dirty plays. Nevertheless, he has been recognized as one of the best players to have come out of Duke in the 2010s.

After joining the Bucks, Grayson Allen signed a two-year, $20 million rookie scale extension on October 18, 2021. The following day, he made his debut for the team, contributing 10 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds in a victory against the Brooklyn Nets.

On January 21, 2022, Allen was ejected from a game against the Chicago Bulls after committing a flagrant 2 foul on Alex Caruso, who sustained a fractured wrist as a result. Bulls coach Billy Donovan criticized Allen for his history of dangerous plays and expressed concern that he could have ended Caruso’s career. The NBA suspended Allen for one game as a consequence of the incident.

Despite this setback, Allen had an impressive showing during the playoffs in April 2022, scoring a then-career-high of 22 points in Game 3 of the first round against the Chicago Bulls, and subsequently scoring 27 points in Game 4.
